Review: 2018 Subaru Legacy

The 2018 Subaru Legacy arrives at Waikem Subaru in Massillon, Ohio with improved ride quality, new technology and even more style. The Legacy remains the class leader in interior space and no sedan is safer than the Subaru Legacy. We just received our first batch of 2018 Subaru Legacy models, and after our first test drive, we couldn't be happier with this vehicle.
Improvements everywhere
It's not a redesign, but anywhere Subaru could find something to improve, they did it in the new Legacy.
A re-tuned suspension enhances the overall ride quality with better steering and braking. Re-tuned dampers lower the impact when you drive over bumps, and improvements to the power steering leads to a firmer, more direct brake-pedal feel with a more engaging drive.
Subaru reduced the cabin noise in the new Legacy by adjusting the mirrors, glass, and even the engine chain.
The center console has been adjusted with the temperature controls in a more logical place with an easier to use dial. The air conditioning system was upgraded so the cabin gets colder, quicker. Even the digital clock has been reshaped so it's easier to use. Subaru really didn't cut any corners when it comes to improving the new Legacy.
New Technology
Technology improvements start with the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These are two systems that make it easier and safer than ever to use the phone's full capabilities while driving.
You can make and receive hands-free calls, send texts or have text messages read over the speakers. You can also access apps like Maps, Podcasts, Audiobooks, Skype, Pandora, Spotify, Stitcher, Tunein and others.
It all displays on the touch-screen center console, in the same design as your phone's center screen.
Voice Recognition has been added to the 2018 Subaru Legacy that makes it easy to use your Apple Siri system and OK Google voice commands.
New design
The Subaru Legacy also gets an updated design in 2018. Subtle changes like improvements to the grille and front bumpers give it a more elegant look. The new C-shaped headlights and parking lights are gorgeous, plus the Legacy has updated LED running lights.
New exterior colors include Magnetite Gray Metallic and Crimson Red Pearl.
Inside the Legacy is highlighted by more premium materials and that aforementioned redesign to the center console. On Premium and higher trims, real stitching on the dash, seats and door panels along with high-gloss black trim and silver-color bezels for various controls enhance the high-quality feel of the Legacy cabin. A new gray interior is now available, in addition to black or ivory. The steering wheel is all new with a sportier look and feel.
Subaru Safety
The Subaru Legacy has standard All Wheel Drive, making it one of the safest sedans on the road today. The Legacy is also considered one of the best "bad weather" vehicles, and it's a great car for driving in snow.
Every Legacy comes standard with a backup camera. New for 2018, when reversing, the guidelines displayed on the screen move in sync with the steering to provide more accurate vehicle positioning.
Steering Responsive Headlights are a new optional item in the 2018 Subaru Legacy. Available in conjunction with LED headlights, SRH aims the lights into turns as the driver steers. Also for 2018, Limited models with EyeSight utilize the systems’ cameras for High Beam Assist, which automatically turn the high beams on and off depending on traffic conditions.
Subaru Eyesight
Subaru Eyesight is now available on more Legacys. Eyesight is one of the best safety technologies on the road today, an extra set of eyes on the road during your daily commute.
Cameras are mounted above the rearview mirror that monitor traffic and react to conditions even before you do.
If it senses danger or a collision, Subaru EyeSight will alert you through audible chimes and visible warning lights. Eyesight can also apply the brakes automatically, optimize your cruise control, and warn you if you sway out of your lane.
Automatic reverse braking means if you're traveling in reverse, and the Legacy anticipates a collision, the vehicle will automatically engage the brakes and help prevent an accident.
Upgrade to the Subaru Starlink Safety and Security Connected Services to get automatic collision notifications. It will alert an advisor in the event of an emergency, plus you'll get enhanced roadside assistance.
With Starlink Safety Plus and Security, you'll also have the ability to lock or unlock your doors from your smartphone.
