Review: 2017 Subaru Impreza

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is built in the United States for the first time ever. To celebrate, the model has been completely redesigned. It's available in both sedan and hatchback model with brand-new style both inside and out. Add in the great modern technology and winter-safe all wheel drive, and you can't go wrong with the new Impreza.

American Made

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is the culmination of a three-year project to build the Impreza right here in the United States. Rolling off the lot in Subaru's Indiana plant, the 2017 Subaru Impreza is the byproduct of $1.3 billion in American investments and the hiring of 1,400 American workers.

Brand New Style

The 2017 Subaru Impreza is the first vehicle built using the Subaru Global Platform architecture. The vehicle is built to enhance safety, comfort, agility and driving pleasure. It comes in a hatchback or sedan body style with a beautiful new design.

All Wheel Drive

The Impreza comes standard with Symmetrical All Wheel Drive. This is the safest way to travel in the modern world, as the Impreza is one of the best vehicles for driving in ice and snow. The hatchback version is the perfect adventure vehicle. That high roof and extra storage space makes it easy to load up your camping, hiking or kayaking gear. The all wheel drive makes sure you get to the camp site, docks or wherever your adventure takes you.

When you live in Northeast Ohio, snow is sure to be a problem at some point. If you don't own one already, ask a current Subaru owner and they'll tell you how much easier it is to travel in the snow.

Even with the standard all wheel drive, the Impreza gets an EPA estimated 32 city/highway combined miles per gallon. That beats many comparable front wheel drive offerings from Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai and others.

Modern Technology

The Impreza comes with all the great tech options of the modern vehicle. Subaru's STARLINK Multimedia system connects to some of the top apps for safe access while driving.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect your phone and car like never before. It lays out your apps in the same design as your phone. You can make and receive hands-free calls, send texts or have text messages read over the speakers. You can also access apps like Maps, Podcasts, Audiobooks, Skype, Pandora, Spotify, Stitcher, Tunein and others.

Subaru STARLINK includes navigation, traffic alerts, weather, and even the ability to make dinner reservations.

Some of the other great apps available through STARLINK include Best Parking, Yelp, eBird, Facebook, Twitter and more.

Every Impreza comes standard with backup camera, Bluetooth and USB Ports.

Subaru Eyesight

The Impreza has optional Subaru Eyesight, one of the best safety technologies on the road today. Cameras are mounted above the rearview mirror that monitor traffic and react to conditions even before you do.

If it senses danger or a collision, Subaru EyeSight will alert you through audible chimes and visible warning lights. Eyesight can also apply the brakes automatically, optimize your cruise control, and warn you if you sway out of your lane.

New on the 2017 is automatic reverse braking. If you're traveling in reverse, and the Impreza anticipates a collision, the vehicle will automatically engage the brakes and help prevent an accident.

Upgrade to the Subaru Starlink Safety and Security Connected Services to get automatic collision notifications. It will alert an advisor in the event of an emergency, plus you'll get enhanced roadside assistance.

With Starlink Safety Plus and Security, you'll also have the ability to lock or unlock your doors from your smartphone.

Best in Class Passenger Volume

The Subaru Impreza has best in class interior volume for both sedan and hatchback models. Sedan models have 99.8 cubic feet passenger volume, nearly two cubic feet more than the top competitor. The hatchback model jumps to 100.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, three cubic feet more than the competition.

The Impreza has five different color and fabric material options. This is the first Impreza to offer an optional 6-way power driver's seat.

Thanks to best in class passenger volume and extra safety options, the Impreza is often considered one of the best vehicles for traveling with children or pets.

Awards and Accolades

The Subaru Impreza was named a best resale value award winner by Kelley Blue Book. That means your vehicle will be worth more when it’s time to trade it in. The Impreza is also the longest-lasting vehicle on the road today. Studies from IHS Markit say that 97% of the Subaru Imprezas sold in the last ten years are still on the road today.
