Review: The 2015 Subaru Legacy



The redesigned 2015 Subaru Legacy is set to hit our showroom floor this summer. The new models offers slightly tweaked engines, and updated styling and as always All Wheel Drive.

Engine and Mechanics


The engine choices remain the same as last year's model. The 2.5 liter boxer four cylinder has been slightly modified to offer better fuel economy. If you opt for 3.6R trim you will receive Subaru's ever reliable 3.6 liter six cylinder engine. Both models now come standard with the newest versions of Subaru's CVT transmissions. These new CVTs have algorithms programmed into them so under more aggressive driving the CVT will act more like a traditional automatic, however, under normal driving the system will settle back down into its normal CVT form. The 2.5L is set to deliver 26 city and 36 highway. The 3.6L will feature 20 city and 29 highway for that extra pep.


Style and Design


The new Legacy has been updated to enjoy the aesthetics of the rest of Subaru's lineup. These include updated hexagonal grill, new front bumper, and updated body shape. The updates are not simply cosmetic either, the interior has been upgraded to offer 104.6 total cubic feet for passengers, making it the roomiest interior in the midsized segment. Front seat passengers will be treated to two additional inches of seat width over last years model, and rear seat passengers can enjoy 38.1 inches of legroom.


Safety


The 2015 Subaru Legacy now comes standard with backup camera located in the center of the car for better images. The Legacy also features Subaru's new roll over sensor which will deploy the side curtain airbags when an imminent rollover is detected. The Legacy will also feature new front seat cushion airbags which will help during a frontal collisions. You can also opt for Subaru''s Rear Vehicle Detection system which features blind spot detection, lane change assist, and cross traffic alerts. You can also opt for Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist system, the high rated crash prevention system by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane departure warning. Will all these safety features the 2015 Subaru Legacy is expected to receive a IIHS Top Safety Pick + award.


Technology


The New Legacy comes standard with Subaru's new 6.2 inch infotainment system. This is a gesture based system reminiscent to most tablets. This system includes AM/FM radio, HD Radio, CD, Smart phone integration, Pandora radio, iHeart radio, and bluetooth hands free calling. For people who like manual controls, the system also features complete manual controls for the radio and climate control. On premium models you will receive a 7 inch infotainment system that adds voice control, SMS text reading, and Sirius satellite radio. On limited trims you will be treated to harmon-kardons 576 watt equivalent Green Edge 12 speaker sound system. This sound system offer the sound of a 576 watt system with significantly less power usage.
